Présentation :
The ANR project ROMAM² is looking for a postdoctoral researcher in Old French philology to reopen one of the founding datasets of French historical dialectology.
Dees’ work has had a lasting influence on how we map the scriptae of Old French. Yet it rests on critical editions that silently expanded abbreviations and regularised spellings. Handwritten text recognition now makes it possible to go back to the manuscripts at scale. The CATMuS models transcribe medieval scripts while keeping the scribes’ abbreviations and spellings, and the CoMMA corpus already gathers 3.3 billion words from more than 32,000 manuscripts. The postdoc will draw on these tools to return to the source manuscripts of the Nouveau Corpus d’Amsterdam, describe their abbreviation and spelling practices, and measure how far editorial choices have shaped our view of medieval French dialects.
