We are delighted to announce the forthcoming workshop on the subject “Sprache und Kolonialismus / Language and colonialism”. The event will be held at the Leibniz Institute for the German Language (Mannheim, Germany) on 10-11 September 2026. The aim of this workshop is to acknowledge the achievements of Colonial and Postcolonial Linguistics with a special focus on, but not limited to German colonialism; to identify existing gaps; and to explore the need for and potential of a reorientation of the field towards sociolinguistics, historical sociolinguistics, creole studies and documentation linguistics.
