The 15th Syntax and Semantics Conference in Paris
Thematic Workshop Moral Language

A workshop on the theme Moral Language will follow the 15th Syntax and Semantics Conference in Paris (CSSP 2023) and will take place on December 11, 2023. It is organized at the Jean-Nicod Institute (ENS, PSL, EHESS, CNRS) and is sponsored by the Institute of the Americas.
The Moral Language workshop aims to explore linguistic forms used to give moral judgements and create moral norms. We welcome submissions from scholars working in any area of linguistics and philosophy, or any related field, and are particularly interested in research into the semantics and pragmatics of moral language. Computational linguistics and NLP work are also welcome, as long as their relation to moral language is made very clear.
Abstracts should be anonymous and no more than 2 pages (excluding references), in Times New Roman, 11pt, with a line spacing of 1.5. We encourage submissions on a wide range of topics related to the workshop’s theme, including but not limited to:

The semantics of lexical items that express moral concepts

Linguistic strategies for creating and reinforcing moral norms

The relation between moral language and moral reasoning

The role of moral meaning in the formation of ideology

Moral language interpretation in context

Moral predicates and meta-ethics
We invite submissions for a 20-minute presentation. Abstract submissions should be sent via email in PDF format to morallworkshop@gmail.com by June 15, 23:59 (Paris – CEST). In your submission email, please include your name, affiliation, and the title of your proposed presentation.
