Welcome to Middle Ages for Educators, designed for teachers, students, and anyone who wants to learn about the Middle Ages (c. 300-1500 C.E.). This website offers several types of resources that we hope can aid both teaching and research during the ongoing Coronavirus Pandemic and beyond.
We provide videos, links to primary source collections, and other resources.
- Short Video Lectures has content that includes short video lectures, primary resources, discussion questions, and recommended further readings from some of the world’s specialists on various medieval topics. We have all had to adjust our teaching and learning to an entirely online format, so our goal is to offer content that is accessible, entertaining, and user-friendly.
- New Teaching Resources highlights recent videos and other resources that we have just received.
- Translated Primary Sources offers links to writings from the Middle Ages in translation that can be used for teaching
- Linked Resources for Teaching has lectures, podcasts, and other existing resources. As we collect more resources, we will add further categories for these resources, but for now doing word searches of the entire site is the best way to see what’s on offer.
If there are topics you would like us to cover, please feel free to contact us or fill out the form under Request Additional Help-Teaching. You will also find a list there of medievalists who have already offered to help, so feel free to contact them directly.
Many of us are going to be self-isolating at home for the foreseeable future and no longer have access to research materials.
- Our Secondary Sources Exchange is set up as a way to find someone else who might have or have access to something you need.
- Just as with teaching, we have also set up a Request Additional Help – Research tab so you can request particular items.
Medievalist Databases
Our website offers two centralized databases that help medievalists get in contact with one another and find various types of resources.
- Medievalists at the Ready provides a database of medievalists who have volunteered to help with teaching, research or other topics. If you would like to be added or removed from this list, please contact us. We are also not the only project that has been created to help researchers and teachers.
- We have added other medievalist databases, sources about pandemics and plagues, library resources, open-access publishing, and databases from nearby fields on our Linked Resources page. If you know of other resources, please pass them along!
