2018 Seminar on Linguistic Typology and the Expressions of Motion Events in Languages in China (LT&EoM@CHN)

Lexicalization Typology of Motion Events (Talmy 1985, Berman & Slobin 1994; inter alias) has drawn much attention since the late 90’s and pops up under the spotlight in various arenas, such as linguistic typology, cognitive linguistics, psycho-linguistics, language acquisition and even historical linguistics, involving hundred-ish languages of over ten families.
To further the typological studies on the Expressions of Motion Events in languages and dialects in China, the Department of Chinese Language and Literature (Key Disciplines at the Provincial Level), College of Humanities, Changshu Institute of
Technology (CIoT) will host the 2018 Seminar on Linguistic Typology and the Expressions of Motion Events in languages in China on Donghu Campus, CIoT,
2018.12.21-23. Hence, we sincerely call for your papers working on this theme including but not limited to:
1. semantic typology of Motion Events in a specific language or dialect;
2. encoding typology of Motion Events in a specific language or dialect;
3. comparative study of languages or dialects in China;
4. other correlating paradigms (eg. directionals/directives);
5. associated motion in the sense of Koch (1984) and relevant mega-events;
6. historical evolution of relevant constructions and functional
morphemes/words;
7. interdisciplinary studies, e.g. psycho-linguistics, language acquisition,
computational linguistics, etc.
There is no registration fee charged. However, transportations and accommodations should be on your own. Scholars and PhD students are encouraged to drop your
application to motionevent@163.com no later than 2018.9.30, with a less-than-500-word abstract for the attention of Dr. LIU Jun, Dr. JIN Yao-huaAfter
the double-blind review, an official letter of invitation will be sent out to those whose
abstracts are admitted.
