Meeting Description:
Over the last two decades, the CIHLIE has become a must for the research of specialised languages in the Ibero-Romance field. In the eight editions held since the first one in 1996, a wide range of approaches have been considered, from terminology and the dissemination of science, the translation of scientific texts, the standardisation of specialised languages, text comparison and cultural and discursive traditions, to the intertextual and social dialogical perspective, and, lastly, specialised lexicography.
In this ninth edition, we delve into the creation and development of new specialised text types and into the rise of new discursive resources that have emerged throughout history up to the end of the 20th century.
Aims and Lines of Work:
In similar fashion to previous editions, the aims of the Colloquium comprise:
– examining the current situation of research on specialised languages in general and on Ibero-Romance languages in particular;
– identifying solutions and historical paths that can serve to harmonize current issues in the field of specialised communication.
The specific aims of the Colloquium consist of:
– describing the development of new text types from the beginning of the literature on Ibero-Romance languages until the end of the 20th century;
– encouraging diachronic research as an instrument to discover and describe the creation and adaptation of new text types;
– studying the introduction of new text types into a scientific community through translation and fostering an interest for specialised translation and the problems that translators have faced throughout its history;
– researching the history and reception of specific text types and their transformation in the specialised target cultures;
– identifying the construction of new discursive traditions that come to be thanks to the development or the introduction of new text types in a given scientific community of one or many languages;
– identifying the specific processes and changes that occur in languages through the incorporation or creation of new text types;
– describing the syntactic-discursive behaviour and the argumentative lines of new established text types:
– studying and defining the concepts, terms and lexicon created or modified with the emergence of a new text type.
Languages: We welcome all Ibero-Romance languages and French.
Registration: Registration fee: 120 €
Reduced fee (for students and unemployed graduates): 35 €
The Colloquium is free for teachers and students of the UPF.
Registered participants will have at their disposal an official certificate for taking part in the Colloquium.
Call for Papers:
Please send your proposals for paper presentations the cihlieIXupf.edu in an enclosed file (.doc, .docx o .rtf).
Files should be between 250 and 300 words long (Times New Roman, size 12, simple line spacing, centred title in bold)—including the reference list—and should clearly state the aims and the theoretical framework of the proposal.
Please include only the title and the abstract in the submission, disregarding any facts that might reveal the author’s identity.
The body of the email should include the name and institution of the author or authors and the title of the work.
Presentations will last 20 minutes, followed by 10 minutes of discussion to allow participants to join the debate.
Dates:
The deadline to send in your proposals is on 30 November 2021. Abstracts will be subjected to a double and blind evaluation process on behalf of the scientific committee, who will announce their decisions before 21 January 2022.
Registration will be open from 31 January 2021 to 11 May 2022.
