Appel à contribution – Multilingual Literary Cultures in the Middle Ages
E-workshops April
May 2021
We invite proposals for informal papers for a series of six e-workshops on the topic of ‘Multilingual Literary Cultures in the Middle Ages’. Part of the NWO-funded research project ‘The Multilingual Dynamics of the Literary Culture of Medieval Flanders, c. 1200- c. 1500’, the e-workshops will take place in April and May 2021. We welcome proposals from scholars at all career stages, and particularly encourage ECRs.
Each meeting will be devoted to a particular theme, to be approached from any relevant disciplinary perspective. Possible themes include the dynamics of local and regional literary cultures; court and urban communities; administrative multilingualism; monastic multilingualism; commercial issues; reception milieus; genre; contact zones. Suggestions for additional themes are welcome.
These e-workshops will take place on Zoom every two weeks and will consist of a short, informal presentation (max. 20 minutes), an invited response (max. 10 minutes) and a general discussion designed to invite multidisciplinary perspectives (max. 20 minutes). The sessions will be scheduled on Thursdays, starting at 4 p.m. (CET). The presentations and responses will be recorded on the Zoom platform to be circulated among participants in the week after each meeting, with the speakers’ permission.
Please send your short proposal to multilingualdynamics@gmail.com before Monday, 1 March, 2021. Selections will be made and speakers contacted with further details by Friday, 12 March.
A separate invitation to participants will follow shortly thereafter.
