Call for Papers:

We invite submissions for 30 (20+10) minute long oral presentations dealing with the following issues:

– common paths of grammaticalization of motion verbs in Romance (motion > tense, aspect markers)
– less common paths of grammaticalization of motion verbs in Romance (motion > passive auxiliaries)
– motion verbs used as copulas – a Pan-Romance path; possible explanations
– mechanisms of syntactic change explaining these phenomena
– the degree to which the motion (deictic) meaning is preserved in the novel (grammaticalized) structures
– the relevance of the Romance motion verbs data for the theory of grammaticalization (intermediate steps, switch context(s))
– the relevance of dialectal data for the theory of grammaticalization

Submissions should be sent by attachment, as anonymous pdfs, to: adina_drag(at)yahoo.com, accompanied by a file containing the title of the paper, the authors and their affiliation.

Submissions must be no longer than two single-spaced pages, in Times New Roman 12, including references and examples.

Workshop language: English.

Conference fee: 50 euros (payable upon arrival; it includes coffee breaks and two meals)
